Crochet your own snood for a style that fits only you.
If you are a busy woman, keeping your hair neat and out of your face when time is short can be a challenge. A snood is an attractive hair net which keeps your hair
in place on top or at the back of your head. Putting your hair in a snood is not difficult, and even better, you can easily make snoods yourself. A simple mesh design is an easy way to crochet your own hair snoods, and if you make them yourself, you can be sure that you will like the color and style of the snood, and that it will fit the length of hair you have.
Instructions
1. Crochet 12 chain stitches. To do this, make a slip knot about 6 inches from the yarn end. Insert the hook and pull the yarn through the loop. Repeat this until you have a chain of 12 stitches.
2. Join the ends of this chain together using a slip stitch to make a ring.
3. Crochet six chain stitches then attach this chain to the ring using a single crochet stitch; repeat this five times. To single crochet, insert the hook into the chain and pull a loop through the chain so that you have two loops on the hook. Then wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through the two loops.
4. Crochet three chain stitches then attach this chain to the ring using a double crochet to form a sixth loop. To double crochet, take the hook (with the existing stitch on it) and wrap the yarn around it; the hook will now have two loops. Insert the hook into the chain. Wrap the yarn around the hook again. Pull the yarn through the chain stitch so that you have three loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull the yarn through the first two loops on the hook. Then wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull the yarn through the last two loops.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the snood is big enough. Then fasten off by pulling the yarn through the last hole, pulling tight and cutting the yarn off.
6. Use a piece of sewing elastic to keep the snood in place on your head.
Sew a hem around the edge of the snood wide enough for the elastic to go through.
7. Thread the elastic through the hem of the snood and try it on. Before you sew the ends together, make sure it is tight enough. Pull the two ends of the elastic together so that the snood stays on your head and doesn't easily move when you shake your head. Cut any excess elastic off and then sew the ends together.
