Create A Flower To Put on Like A Hair Bow & Brooch

Make your flower accessory a two-for-one by piece by turning it into both a brooch and hair piece.

Turn any brooch into a hair accessory and any hair accessory into a brooch in just a few minutes. After you are finished creating your ribbon or fabric flower, you can use both a brooch pin and an alligator clip to make your new fashion accessory interchangeable. Although you may be able to find a brooch pin and hair clip combo at a local fabric store, you can also make one just as easily from home.

Instructions

1. Lay the ribbon on a clean work surface. Cut the ribbon so that it is about 24 to 32 inches long.

2. Fold the ribbon in half lengthwise. Add a 1-inch line of fabric glue to the left end of the folded ribbon.

3. Roll the left end of the ribbon over the fabric glue. This will create the center of the flower.

4. Hold the rolled and glued end the ribbon in one hand. Twist and fold the ribbon tail around the rolled end of the ribbon to create petals. Always twist and fold the ribbon tail away from the rolled end of the ribbon.

5. Add a drop of fabric glue to the outer folds of the flower to secure each petal.

6. Continue to twist, fold and glue the petal layers until you have only 1 inch of ribbon tail remaining.

7. Apply a layer of glue to the underside of the flower. Fold the 1-inch ribbon tail under the flower and over the glue. Press the ribbon tail into the glue to permanently secure the tail in place.

8. Cut off any excess ribbon.

9. Cut a piece of felt so that it is the same size as the bottom of the flower.

10. Place the felt piece right side up on your work surface. Apply two, side-by-side, thin strips of fabric glue to the felt. Place the base of a brooch pin onto one strip and place the bottom of an alligator clip onto the other strip.

11. Press down on the brooch pin and alligator clip to ensure that they are both permanently secured to the felt.

12. Apply a layer of glue to the underside of the flower. Place the felt piece directly on top of the glue. Press down on the felt to ensure that it is glued completely to the flower. Allow the flower a full 24 hours to dry before wearing it.

13. Pin the brooch pin to your shirt to wear the flower as a brooch. Or you can slide the alligator clip through a section of your hair -- or over a ribbon headband -- to wear the flower as a hair accessory.
