Silky bows with a little glitter are so pretty
Making pretty hair bows to match that perfect dress or ensemble can really make an outfit pop. It is recommended to use any type of ribbon that complements the outfit. Use some colors or designs from your wardrobe, for inspiration for your bow. You can make pretty hair bows with just the right "special" touch. Feel free to add some embellishments; like glitter, a few gems or a shiny button. The only thing that matters when it comes to designing your pretty bow is, creativity.
Instructions
1. Select at least two different ribbons for this project. For example if you have a pink and white polka dot ribbon for the main bow, you could choose white for the center accent. Use a ribbon with a pattern and accent it with one color from it. Use a solid color like yellow and maybe use orange for the center accent. Keep in mind the center accent will be small so its not a big deal.
2. Measure out 4 inches of ribbon with your measuring tape. Fold the next 4-inch section around to meet the end. Do this one more time so you have a layered coil. Snip off the ribbon if you still have it on a spool. You should now have three layers of ribbon all 4 inches long.
3. Undo the coil and put a little clear nail polish on both ends and let your ribbon sit to dry.
4. Coil the ribbon back up in the same manner. Measure in 2 inches and pierce the dead center of the ribbon with a straight pin.
5. Spread out your ribbon loops around the pin in the center. Remove the pin and go through the center with needle and thread. Make a stitch to secure the center of the bow. It is okay to pull it a little so it gathers the ribbon up. Once the bow is secure, tie your thread off and clip off your needle. Store your needle in a safe place.
6. Tie your accent ribbon in the center. Use about 4 inches of ribbon. Simply tie a knot. Keep the ribbon in the front smooth (it will crinkle a bit) and tie the knot in the back of the bow so you can not see it. Secure the knot by pulling the two tails as taught as possible. Cut off any excess ribbon at this time. The glue will keep the knot from coming undone.
7. Plug in the glue gun and allow it heat up. Dispense the glue on the knot you just made. Dispense a little on the back of the large bow as well. Place the center knot in the center of the metal barrette. Immediately press the large ribbon on the metal clip so the ribbon conceals the metal.
8. Press the bow down and hold it a little bit until the glue cools. Do not touch the glue itself. Press on the top knot and the top part of the ribbon to secure it. Let it dry, then it's ready to wear.
