Create Rockabilly Girl Hairstyles
Rockabilly is a term that combines the word "hillbilly" with the term "rock and roll." Rockabilly music harnessed the essence of both western swing and boogie woogie and in turn created an entire subculture, including a very specific fashion style. Rockabilly hairstyles for girls use haircut styles from the '40s and '50s and add some punk-like qualities to give them some color and attitude.
Instructions
1. Acquire the proper haircut. Female rockabilly styles most often channel Bettie Page, with blunt bangs that are slightly longer in the middle than the sides. If you want to keep your hair long, make sure to include a 4-inch-long layer on each side of the face. For short hair, keep 4-inch layers all around with 3-inch layers around each side of the face.
2. Make your hair color bold and vibrant. The three most popular hair colors for rockabilly styles are platinum blonde, jet black and fire engine red. The dramatic edge that each color offers completely supports the rockabilly feel. Take care of your hair color and touch it up monthly so that the look is bold at all times.
3. Style your hair by rolling it in curlers while it still wet. Allow the hair to completely air dry before removing the curlers and separating them with your fingers to your liking. If you want a change, pin the sides up with the face-framing layers falling free, or pull it all up in a French twist. Use plenty of hairspray to set each style.
4. Add the final touch by wearing a different hair accessory every day. Rockabilly styles can be completely defined by certain accessories, such as a bandana tied around the head, bows pinned to the side of the head or even jeweled accent clips. Use an accessory that matches your outfit and makeup--faux flowers look gorgeous when paired with a dress, and a bandana tied headband-style can really make simple jeans and a button-up shirt look great.
