Many little girls like hair bows that include many strands of curly ribbon. While you can purchase curled ribbon, sometimes referred to as korked ribbon, you can also make it yourself from 3/8-inch grosgrain ribbon.
Instructions
1. Cut the dowels to a length that will fit the length of the baking sheet.
2. Secure the ribbon to one end of a dowel with a clothespin. Wrap the grosgrain ribbon tightly around the dowel, without overlapping the edges. Leave spaces between the ribbon wraps if you want a looser curl. The way you wrap the ribbon is the same way the grosgrain ribbon will curl. When you reach the end of the dowel, cut the ribbon and hold it in place with another clothespin.
3. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil to prevent any residue left on the pan from staining your curled grosgrain ribbon. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
4. Spray the ribbon wrapped dowels and the clothespins with water. The water will help the grosgrain ribbon curl better.
5. Place the dowels on the baking sheet and put the baking sheet into the oven. Dowels or clothespins should not touch the sides or metal rack of the oven.
6. Bake the dowels in the oven for about 20 minutes to curl the grosgrain ribbon. After 20 minutes, check to see if the ribbons are dry. If they are not, put them back in for another few minutes. Monitor your curled grosgrain ribbon carefully because it can singe.
7. Remove dry ribbons from oven and let them cool. Remove the curly ribbon from the dowels to use in your hair bows or other projects.
