July 4th is celebrated with red, white, and blue, hats, shirts, banners, wavers, flags, and more. This year create your own July 4th celebration with easy to make crafts. Dress up your home, picnic table, or party with July 4th crafts you make from household articles and inexpensive craft supplies. Make star spangled wavers, patriotic pom poms, or craft stick flags for everyone to celebrate the 4th of July!
Patriotic Pom Pom
Stack and line up five plastic red and white plastic bags and staple the bottom ends together several times. If you don't have bags, fold in half two sheets each of red, white, and blue tissue, stack and line them up and staple the folded end several times. Cut the unstapled end of the bags or tissue paper into ¾-inch wide fringe stopping about 1 inch from the staples. Cover a wooden dowel, tongue depressor, or stick with blue painters tape to make the handle. Wrap the stapled end tightly around one end of the handle. Secure the stapled end to the handle by wrapping blue tape around it several times.
Star-Spangled Wavers
Cut two stars measuring 6 inches from tip to tip, from red felt. Cut two stars measuring 4 inches from tip to tip, from blue felt. Cut two stars measuring 3 inches from tip to tip, from white felt. Glue the blue stars to the middle of the red stars. Glue the white stars to the center of the red stars and allow the glue to dry. Tacky glue is the best choice for this project because it dries clear and remains flexible. Glue a narrow wooden dowel between the two stars. Make sure to line up all edges of the stars before gluing. Use red, white, and blue ribbon for streamers that you tie to the dowel just under the star.
Craft Stick Flag
Paint five craft sticks bright red, let the paint dry completely, turn the sticks over and paint the other side. Paint four craft sticks white, let the paint dry, turn the stick over and paint the other side. Give the paint enough time to dry totally. Line the painted sticks up like the stripes on the American flag starting with a red stick, white stick, red stick, and so on. Glue three craft sticks vertically on the red and white horizontal sticks. Shorten two craft sticks to the height of the red and white sticks. Glue a shortened craft stick near the left edge of the flag. Glue another shortened craft stick in the middle. Glue a full length craft stick on (flag handle) near the right edge of the flag. Cut a small square of blue construction paper. Draw white stars, cut stars from white construction paper, or use white star stickers and glue them to the blue square. When the glue is completely dry turn the flag over and glue the blue square with white star on the flag. Glue another craft stick to the long craft stick on the flag to lengthen the handle. You can wrap the handle with blue painter's tape for a finished look.
