Decorate a hair bow holder to personalize it and make it your own.
Hair bows are a staple in most households, and especially in those with young girls in the family. Although they are a favorite fashion accessory for girls as well as many women, a collection of hair bows can often become cluttered, and a hair bow holder can help you keep your bows organized and prevent them from getting damaged or lost. Most bow holders feature a piece of wood with straps of ribbon hanging down to clip the hair bows onto. To personalize a hair bow holder, you can paint it decoratively and hang it on a wall in a room.
Instructions
1. Lay a drop cloth down on a countertop, floor or other firm surface. This absorbs any paint spills and helps prevent a mess.
2. Smooth the surface of the wood with 180-grit sandpaper.
3. Clean the wood with a small amount of concentrated cleaner and a rag. This removes dust from sanding, any debris and oil.
4. Pour 1 cup of primer into a plastic container, dip a large paintbrush in and brush primer over the entire surface of the wood. Primer prepares the surface by creating a solid, smooth base for the paint to adhere to.
5. Pour 1 cup of the first color of paint --- the base color --- into a plastic container, dip a large paintbrush in and brush paint over the entire surface of wood after the primer has dried completely.
6. Pour 1 cup of a second color of paint into a plastic container, dip a small paintbrush in and paint decorative lines or shapes across the front of the bow holder after the base coat of paint has dried completely. Continue painting, using as many colors of paint as desired, until you are satisfied with the finished look.
7. Pour 1 cup of clear epoxy paint into a plastic container, dip a large paintbrush in and paint over the entire surface of the wood after all the paint is dry. A coat of epoxy paint protects the painted surface, preventing it from chipping or staining.
