Keep multiple headbands on one holder.
If you're tired of losing and breaking headbands, this craft is for you. A hair bow holder for plastic headbands is easy to make and looks stylish in any bathroom or girl's room. Personalize the holder to match the decor of your home or a bedroom. Recreate the craft for multiple headbands, different children or as a gift. You also can mix multiple colors and patterns of ribbon for this project.
Instructions
Create the Bow
1. Plug in the glue gun to heat up for 10 minutes. Put newspaper or an old tablecloth on your working surface. Cut two pieces from your 4-inch ribbon roll 16 inches long. Hold the ribbon in the air away from anything flammable. Using the lighter, wave the flame quickly over the cut edges of ribbon to prevent tears and frays.
2. Take your first 16-inch piece and meet the ends in the middle, or 8 inches from the ends for each. Put a dab of glue on the bottom layer where the two pieces meet. Put the two pieces on that glue so they are glued to each other and to the bottom layer.
3. Fold the ribbon in half lengthwise. At 4 inches or halfway in, put another drop of glue. Hold the two pieces together while the glue dries. The ribbon is now shaped like a bow tie. Fold the ribbon lengthwise again, and glue in the middle of the ribbon again. Adjust the ribbon to shape a bow.
4. Create another bow like the first with your second piece of 16-inch ribbon. Put one bow on top of the other to make a larger bow in an "X" shape. Cut a chunk out of the middle section of the bottom bow. Slide the top bow into the cut. Glue these together.
5. Cut a piece of ribbon from the 2-inch roll about 4 inches long. Heat the edges with the lighter. Fold the side edges into the middle and glue. Wrap this piece around the center of the bow to cover up where the two separate bows cross. Glue it into place.
6. Glue a thick hair tie to the back of the bow to hang the hair bow holder.
Make a Headband Holder
7. Cut 4-inch ribbon and 2-inch ribbon 30 inches long. Heat the edges with a lighter. Spread the 4-inch ribbon out on your working surface.
8. Place drops of glue 2 inches apart all the way down the ribbon. Layer the 2-inch ribbon on the glue over top of the 4-inch ribbon in the center. Wait for it to dry. The spaces between the glue is where you will put your headbands.
9. Glue the ribbon to the back of your bow. Wait for it to dry. Hang the hair bow holder for plastic headbands on a doorknob or nail.
