Corkscrew earrings are made from jewelry bending and coiling techniques.
Corkscrew earrings are spiraling drop earrings, made of wire, that can either be plain or feature a bead or charm style dangle at the end. The coiling spiral of corkscrew earrings make them seem difficult to construct, but with a few wire bending tools like pliers and dowels, the helix shape is actually easy to mold. The most basic corkscrew earring style features the spiral and ear piece made from the same wire, but the techniques used in this style can be changed up to make more intricate and decorative variations.
Instructions
1. Use the wire cutters to cut 5 1/2 inches for each earring.
2. Use the pliers to create an eye loop at one end of the wire. Bend the wire 45 degrees just above the eye loop.
3. Hold the eye loop flush to the dowel, wrap the wire around the dowel 2 1/2 times to create the corkscrew spiral. Remove the dowel from the spiral.
4. Use the pliers to bend the end of the corkscrew spiral 90 degrees. The straight end should be perpendicular to the corkscrew spiral. Bend the straight end of the wire another 90 degrees to parallel the straight end and the corkscrew spiral.
5. Bend the final inch of wire 45 degrees away from the corkscrew spiral.
6. Use the anvil and hammer to harden the ear portion of the earring (not the corkscrew spiral). Tap the earring between the hammer and anvil lightly to produce a slight flattening effect.
7. Repeat coiling and bending processes for the second earring. Mirror the second earring to the first, making the spirals and bends in the opoosite direction as the first earring.
