Layered Hairstyles For Medium To Lengthy Hair

A multitude of layered styles work with all hair types.

Layered hair has been popular for some time. Layers add texture, interest and definition to long and medium-length hair. Adding layers to your long hair can dramatically change the look and style, without losing too much length. Those with thick hair will find many-layered styles are easier to maintain, as the layers take out much of the weight. Before picking a new layered style, speak to your stylist who can advise you on which style will work best with your hair type.

The Shag

The shag is a style that has a messy "undone" look. The style accentuates the facial features and has plenty of texture and volume. If you prefer your hair neat, this may not be the style for you--however, this is perfect for those who like the "just got out of bed look." After your stylist has cut in your layers, the shag simply requires a rough blow-dry and a touch of styling wax.

Bangs

Adding bangs to an already long layered haircut can totally transform the hair. If you are scared of taking your hair much shorter or are trying to grow the hair longer, bangs can update any tiered look. When considering adding bangs, think about the shape of your face. Those with a larger forehead can carry off long sweeping side bangs. Alternatively, blunt bangs add attitude to your style and suit most face shapes.

Scene

Scene is a popular hairstyle among teenagers. It consists of very choppy and razored layers. Scene style often incorporates bright or bold colors such as a random thick blond or pink streak on black hair. Scene hair is often poker straight, has bangs covering the eyes and has lots of product on to define the choppy layers. Add bows, ribbons and kitsch hair slides to complete the look.

Long Bob

The bob has evolved over many years and is no longer simply a blunt short cut. The modern bob now incorporates longer front layers and a shorter, more textured back. Add color to give depth by using a darker, contrasting color on the layers underneath. Many bobs allow for versatile styling including flicks, curls and waves, which can all be styled on a longer bob.
