Make Hair Bows Out of Shirts
Once a shirt becomes too worn for wear, there are many options that will allow you to recycle the shirt instead of throwing it away. One thing that you can do with an old shirt is turn it into a stylish headband hair bow. You don't need to purchase any extra supplies from the craft store to create this simple hair accessory. In minutes, you can wear your headband hair bow made from an old shirt.
Instructions
1. Take your old shirt and cut a strip that is long enough to wrap around your head and add 1 foot in length. The easiest way to get this length is to cut a spiral strip around the waist of the shirt. Shirts made with a slightly stretchy fabric will work best.
2. Fold the strip in half to find the center. Place the center of the strip under all of your hair at the nape of your neck. Wrap the strip around to the top of your head, so it will hold all of your hair away from your face.
3. Tie two box knots, which is typically the first step used to tie a shoelace. The fabric will stretch over time, so tie the knot rather tight so your bow doesn't have to be re-tied every time that you want to wear it.
4. Next, make a loop with one end of the fabric strip, same as tying a shoelace. Then, wrap the other end of the fabric around the loop. Push that strip of fabric though itself to form a second loop. Tighten your bow by pulling the loops. Your hair bow should now be tied in the same manner that most tie their shoelaces. Now, take the two loops in one hand and the two tails of the bow in the other. Pull the loops toward the back of your head and the tails toward the front to adjust your bow. Finally lay the loops of your bow out to the sides so that they run almost parallel to the headband.
