Create a headband bow for a newborn baby.
Hair bows for newborn baby girls are often difficult to attach to their fine, soft and usually sparse hair. Attaching bows to an elasticized headband is the best option for dressing up a baby’s hairdo for a special outing or occasion. Before making these headband bows, check baby’s wardrobe and pick out a few outfits to match the headband fabric and ribbon to. Wearing one of these charming bows, baby will be ready to meet the world.
Instructions
1. Wash the fabric in the baby-safe laundry soap. Dry the fabric and iron it smooth.
2. Measure around the head of the newborn to determine the length of the headband
3. Cut the fabric to the determined length, minus 1 inch, and 2 1/2 inches wide.
4. Fold the fabric lengthwise, right sides together. Pin the cut edges together and sew a 1/4-inch straight stitch seam along the edge.
5. Turn the fabric inside out with the help of the chopstick. Press the fabric with the seam on the middle underside.
6. Cut a 2-inch long piece of elastic. Turn the ends of the headband in 1/2 inch. Insert one end of the elastic inside the end of the headband 1/2 inch. Sew through both sides of the headband and the elastic to secure.
7. Insert the loose elastic end in the other end of the headband and repeat the sewing steps to secure.
8. Cut a 30-inch piece of silk ribbon. Sew a straight stitch along one long side of the ribbon with the needle and thread. Gather the thread to 1/3 the length of the ribbon. Beginning at the end nearest the needle, spiral the ribbon, tacking it down with small stitches until a ribbon flower bow is formed.
9. Sew the flower bow to the headband with the needle and thread.
