Do Princess Leia'S Hair

You can have Princess Leia's famous hair buns for any special occasion.

Princess Leia is a fashion icon and has been for decades, and her famous cinnamon-bun hairstyle is a common choice for themed parties, Halloween, and special occasions. While you can easily achieve this look, you need long hair. If you don't have long hair, you can purchase two inexpensive brown clip-in hair extensions at least 18 inches long. The hair extensions will add volume to your Princess Leia buns.

Instructions

1. Wash and dry your hair completely. Brush it out to remove any tangles.

2. Part your hair exactly in the middle. Starting at the center front of your forehead, use a rat-tail comb and trace a line straight to the nape of your neck. Comb you hair away from the part and secure each side in a clip to keep it out of the way. Check your part in a mirror to ensure it is straight. Redo the part if necessary.

3. Straighten your hair with a flat iron. Start on one side of your part and straighten your hair from the roots to the tips, pulling the flat iron away from the part. Straighten no more than 1-inch sections at a time until all of your hair is straight.

4. Secure your hair in rubber bands in two low ponytails directly behind your ears. If you use hair extensions, clip them into the center of your ponytails. Brush out each ponytail to remove tangles.

5. Hold one ponytail straight out from your ear with the end in your hand. Twist the ponytail six or seven times.

6. Continue twisting while wrapping the base of the ponytail clockwise around the ponytail holder. Wrap the hair around so each layer sits loosely outside of the previous layer. The bun should get gets wider with each pass of the hair. When you come to the end of your hair, tuck in ends neatly under the bun.

7. Pin the bun in place with U-shaped hairpins. Start at the center near the ponytail holder and work clockwise around your bun until it is firmly held in place. When you shake your head, your bun should barely move. If it does, add more pins.

8. Repeat this process on the other side of your hair. Check the mirror to make sure both buns are evenly placed on your head.

9. Spray your hair with firm-hold hairspray. Smooth flyaway hairs in the direction your hair is laying and spray lightly so it lays flat with the rest of the hair.
