Finding the perfect accessory for a little girl's special occasion can put the finishing touch on her outfit. Instead of making shopping trips to the mall, create your own accessory. You can create the proper color or style of hair bow with some ribbon and a few twists of the hand. To make a butterfly bow, you will fold ribbon into the shape of a butterfly and attach it to a hair clip. Crafting this claw clip butterfly bow will only take minutes.
Instructions
1. Thread a sewing needle, tie a knot in the end and set aside.
2. Cut a 24-inch length of 1-inch-wide ribbon. Singe the ends of the ribbon with a flame to prevent fraying. Fold the ribbon in half and crease to mark the center.
3. Lay the ribbon on a work surface. Press your finger onto the center of the ribbon. Take the top end of the ribbon with your other hand and curve it down to the right and bring it to rest on the center crease. Hold the ribbon end in place.
4. Take the bottom end of the ribbon and curve to up to the left and bring it to rest on the center crease. Put the two ends up together, forming a figure-eight. Hold the ribbon in place at the center.
5. Fold the top loop down onto the center, forming two even loops. Hold into place. Fold the bottom up onto the center, forming two even loops. Overlap these two loops slightly at the center to form the butterfly wings.
6. Pick up the bow at the center and adjust the butterfly wings if necessary. Use the needle and thread to sew a running stitch up the center of the bow. Gather the center of the bow together. Wrap the thread around the center three times and tie a knot on the back side. Cut the thread.
7. Cut a 5-inch piece of the 1/4-inch-wide ribbon. Tie around the center of the butterfly, forming a neat knot on top. Guide one end of the ribbon upward and the other downward, to resemble the butterfly's body shape. Cut off the extra length from each end and singe the ends with a flame.
8. Use the hot-glue gun to attach the butterfly bow to the top of the claw clip.
