Create A Bow Belt

Instead of wearing a bow in your hair, you can wear one around your waist.

A belt is a great accessory that helps complete an outfit. Adding a belt can make your outfit look more put together and polished. You do not have to go and buy a belt; with a bit of creativity, you can make your own. Bow belts are fun and easy to make. They can be made with little cost and do not take much time to create. You can pick any color or pattern ribbon to compliment an outfit you have that needs to be taken to the next level.

Instructions

1. Choose the ribbon you will be using for your belt. You can use a large width ribbon or ribbon more on the thin side in width. Be careful though, you want the width to be a reasonable size. The ribbon should be a good quality so it will hold up well. Velvet makes a great ribbon choice.

2. Measure your waist. Take the measurement of your waist and add 2 inches. You will cut the amount of your waist plus 2 inches from the ribbon.

3. Fold over 1 inch on each side of the ribbon. Pin the folded over area of the ribbon. You will then sew each end. You can either use a sewing machine or do this by hand. If there are any gaps in the folded over part of the ribbon, add a little dot of hot glue. If you want to to bypass sewing the ends completely, another option is to strictly just use hot glue.

4. Add snaps or hooks to each end. Sew in the snaps with just a couple of stitches at first. Put the ribbon around your waist to make sure you like the placement of the snaps. If you do, continue to stitch until they are secure. If you do not like the placement, adjust accordingly and try again.

5. Make the bow. You want to cut a piece of ribbon that is 9 inches and one that is 2 inches. If you want large ribbon, adjust accordingly. Take the piece of ribbon that is 9 inches (laying flat) and fold both ends to the middle until they meet. Put a few drops of glue to hold the ends in place. Take the 2-inch piece of ribbon and wrap around the folded 9-inch piece. The back of the bow should be where the 2-inch ribbon pieces meet. Use a little hot glue to hold the ends togther and to hold the center of the bow to the rest of the bow.

6. Attach the bow to your belt. The area that snaps will be the back of the belt. Put the bow in the middle of the front. Be sure to put the belt on to check and see if the bow is properly placed before you attach. After you have decided on the right placement, use hot glue to secure. You now have a stylish bow belt.
