A hair show or expo is a trade show geared toward beauty professionals, like hairstylists or salon owners. Shows are usually national events hosted in a major city, but some are large-scale international events. Some focus exclusively on hair, while many include related specialties like nails, skin, cosmetics and massage therapy.


Attendees


Most hair shows, like the Premiere Orlando International Beauty Event, are open only to current licensed beauty professionals and cosmetology students. These shows require evidence of attendees' vocation, like a cosmetology license or student identification card.


Exhibitors


Exhibitors pay to send representatives to shows to market their newest products and techniques. The Long Beach International Salon and Spa Expo, for example, boasts hundreds of companies in their latest event. Attendees can browse the expo, visiting the exhibitors' booths and talking to representatives. The companies typically offer their products at a hefty discount, unavailable to an unlicensed consumer.


Cost


Attendees must purchase tickets to beauty expos, which can usually be bought in advance and vary in price. For example, the 2010 ISSA costs $65 for a two-day pass. Some events offer a discount for members of affiliated organizations.
