Generate A Gossamer In A Wedding

Use gossamer to create an elegant venue for your wedding.

Using gossamer, a very light fabric, at a wedding helps to create an elegant and whimsical atmosphere. You can use it to create a variety of themes, from a fairy tale-themed wedding to one with an English tea garden theme. Gossamer is also relatively cheap, so you can purchase dozens of yards to further enhance your ceremony and reception venues. Gossamer also comes in a variety of colors, offering you an opportunity to match the fabric to the wedding color you have selected.

Instructions

1. Measure 3 yards of gossamer at a 60-inch width with your measuring tape to make gossamer bows. Cut out the fabric from the bolt. Measure 7 inches from the end, pinch the fabric and hold it down with your thumb. Form a loop with your fingers that is about 7 inches in length. Hold down with your thumb. Form another loop on the opposite side in the same manner and length. Continue making loops on both the right and left sides that become progressively smaller in length. Wrap the last 8 inches of fabric around the middle. Insert a wire or twist tie through the center of the bow to keep it in place. Adhere these bows to various areas in your reception and ceremony areas, such as on top of arches and guest tables and on the sides of pews.

2. Measure a 60-inch-wide strip of gossamer with your measuring tape. Cut out 4 yards. Wrap the gossamer around the top of a chair. Tie a knot in the middle. Glue a gossamer bow on top of the knot with your glue gun.

3. Attach gossamer to your venue's walls with thumb tacks or double-sided decorator's tape. Begin at the top right-hand corner of each wall and roll your fabric slowly out of the bolt. Add thumb tacks or tape every 3 to 4 inches in length and width. Continue rolling the fabric out of the bolt until you reach the bottom of the wall. Cut fabric to be even with the floor, or leave a couple of extra inches to puddle on the floor. Begin a new panel of gossamer to the left of the area where you began, starting with your fabric slightly overlapping the previous panel. Continue to add fabric and tape down until you cover the entire wall or intended area with gossamer.

4. Measure the width of your reception venue with a tape measure to create a gossamer ceiling treatment. Add an additional 1/3 of the measurement and cut out this amount of fabric. Stand on a step ladder at one end of the ceiling, and attach the gossamer to the ceiling with decorator's tape or thumb tacks. Hand the excess fabric to a partner who is also on a step ladder so he can tape the fabric down and create a swag. Continue the process until you achieve the desired number of swags. Repeat the ceiling panel as many times as desired. Alternatives are to drape the gossamer over chandeliers in the room in a similar manner, or to start in the middle and create a spider web effect by stretching the gossamer to eight locations in the room, such as on top of decorative columns around the dance floor.

5. Add gossamer to your centerpiece arrangements and wedding favors. Cut gossamer into 6-inch squares and tuck in between flower arrangements. Wrap almonds or candies in gossamer fabric, and tie a decorative ribbon around the top for your favors.
