Corkscrew curls are a fun way to style naturally curly hair.
Thick, curly hair that isn't fine is the best for corkscrew hairstyles. There are a variety of corkscrew curls and styles you can create yourself using the right styling products. While some styles might look great first thing in the morning, be sure to try out a few kinds of hairstyles to see what will last all day long.
Types Of Styles
Celebrity photographs are a great source of new styles. Don't be shy, take them to your hair stylist. Try something simple like long and loose, a chin-length bob, ponytails or a wavy chin-length cut. You can dress up corkscrew curls with sophisticated up-dos, controlled by a glamorous headband.
Types of Corkscrew Curls
Corkscrew curls are tight, small coils that can refuse to lie down and stick out from the head, snarling easily. Hair may appear dry and frizzy.
Boticelli curls are "S" shaped, and come in various sizes. They will cooperate and fall nicely, and can be flattened. Hair is brittle, but can be medium to fine. Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker have all been seen with this type of curl.
The loosest curls are the easiest cuts, and are more wave than curl. With humid weather they can become quite frizzy. Women with this hair type often straighten their hair, either at the shop or at home.
Make Corkscrew Curls
With a ponytail holder, make three ponytails. It's much easier to manage the curling process with some hair out of the way.
To curl hair, use a wide curling iron. Separate a one-inch portion of hair, spritz it with a styling spray and begin curling. While you're curling, make sure to leave a few loose ends to avoid a crimping look. Release the hair after about five to 10 seconds, holding longer for a tighter curl. Repeat process with each new section of hair.
You now have corkscrew curls, but make sure not to brush them out. Comb through with your fingers.
Take Care of Your Curls
Deep conditioning on a regular basis is a must. Apply conditioner to the ends and leave in three to five minutes. Then apply conditioner to the scalp and massage for 10 minutes. Overnight treatments are particularly helpful. Remember to use a clarifying product occasionally to remove built-up residues, which will dull your hair.
