Instead of purchasing invitations from the store, you can save money and make your own at home. Elmo, a popular character from the television show "Sesame Street," is loved by many children and often is a theme for parties. You can create your own Elmo invitations at home with construction paper, and you can even have your children aid you in the process. Homemade invitations will impress the guests because of the time and effort that you put into them.
Instructions
1. Draw a large oval 6 inches in diameter on red construction paper. You will need one oval for each invitation that you plan to make.
2. Cut out two 3-inch-wide circles from white construction paper to create the eyes. Overlap the eyes slightly by 1/4 of an inch, and glue them together with a glue stick.
3. Glue the eyes to the top of the oval so that they rest on top. Cut out two 1/2-inch circles from black construction paper. Glue these circles to the center of the eyes.
4. Draw a 2-inch-wide circle on orange construction paper. Cut the circle out and glue it on the center of Elmo's face so that it overlaps the bottom of the eyes slightly.
5. Cut out a 4 1/2-inch-long half circles from black construction paper. Glue the circle on the bottom half of Elmo's face to create his mouth. Draw two horizontal 1-inch lines on the top sides of the mouth with a permanent marker, and then draw 2 1/2-inch vertical lines on the horizontal lines to create Elmo's smile.
6. Turn the invitation over. Glue an index card to the back of the invitation. Write the details for the party on the index card, or print the information on the card with your home printer and a word-processing program.
