Homemade Adornments For Girls' Sleeping rooms

Add personality to a nursery using bright colors.

A girl's bedroom, no matter her age, is her special place. It should be filled with excitement, creativity and her favorite things. When decorating your daughter's bedroom, you want to capture her personality. Use bright colors for the girl who is outgoing or pastels for a newborn. No matter what color palette you choose, there are a few homemade decorations that can be versatile in any pattern.

Letters

Letters that spell out your daughter's name can be used as a wall accessory or even a door accessory. Purchase precut letters from your local craft store. These letters range from 2 inches tall to up to a foot and are made from cardboard or wood. You can use spray paint to cover the letters in a variety of colors, but if you are looking for a pattern, try scrapbook paper. Pick up papers in different patterns such as animals, zebra print, makeup or other girlish ideas. Trace the letter over the paper and cut it out using scissors. Adhere the paper to the letter using craft glue, but only use a little at a time to prevent lumps from forming between the paper and lettering.

Wall Painting and Murals

The paint on the walls can dictate the rest of the d cor for a bedroom. Paint your daughter's room using a base color. Then use craft paints to paint murals, borders or even clouds. For example, for a garden theme bedroom, paint the walls a light sky blue. Use craft paint to paint grass on the borders of the wall as well as flowers. Dip a sea sponge in white paint and dab carefully in large cloud-like patterns at the top of the wall to finish the scenery.

Table Skirts

End tables can be a costly purchase, especially if you want anything custom. Rather than spend money on a premade custom end table, purchase old tables from garage sales or second-hand stores. Paint the table to your desired color. Purchase fabric in a patterned, sheer or solid material and create a table skirt by wrapping the fabric loosely around the edges of the table and adhering it with fabric glue. Create a frilly skirt using tulle and layering it around the edges. Cover the seam of the fabric and table by gluing a ribbon around the border and then tying a bow at the end.

Fabric Boards

Fabric corkboards can be used to hold pictures, reminders and even hair accessories. Purchase a premade corkboard from your local office supply store. At the craft store, purchase fabric in the desired color or print. Stretch the fabric over the front of the corkboard and use fabric glue to adhere the fabric to the back of the board. Hang fabric corkboards on the wall or rest them on a table.
